Geothermie Neubrandenburg (GTN) a leading geothermal engineering firm based in Eastern Germany, but working mostly in other parts of the country and internationally, is increasing its focus to Chile.

Chile has seen some increased geothermal development and many well-known players, among them drilling firms, North American developers and the Italian Enel have all plans on getting active in this region.

GTN, which has Icelandic Mannvit as a minority shareholder, is now looking for a General Manager of its newly founded subsidiary in Santiago de Chile. The applicant should speak English, German and if possible Spanish and be experienced in hydrothermal heat supply (particular heat technology) as well as business administration/ financial management and acquisition.

Germany already plays a part in geothermal development in Chile. The German Federal Agency for Geo-sciences and Resources works on a joint German-Chilean project assessing the suitability of a geothermal site and how to minimize the investment risk through exploration work. This project is worked on together with the Chilean company “Geotermia del Pacifico (owned by American GeoGlobal Energy)”, which is the owner fo the concession license in Sierra Nevada. The Chilean Development Bank CORFO is co-financing these activities. (source)

“Geotermia del Pacifico has indicated that the company’s main interest is the construction of the Puchuldiza central, for which it must wait for the timeline set in the RFP, which could be decided by June. The company expects to be selected to lead this project, for which it is already estimating construction to start by the end of 2009, and to be completed by 2013. The company has also the concession to explore other two regions: San Gregorio (at the limit between Regions VIII and IX, and including 9,000 hectares), and Tripan (Termas de Rio Blanco, Region IX, which includes 4,200 hectares)”.
