Reported by BN Americas in an interview with Catherine Hickson of Magma Energy on the company’s plans for geotherma development in Chile, she says that “Magma is awaiting approval on an exploitation lease at Laguna del Maule, submitted July 24.” Delays in the process are pushing back development, though Hickson said the plan is to have power in five years.
Three additional concessions, which had been lumped together and called Carran, are not being sought after geological surveys provided less than promising results. Magma has a number of bids on other areas as well. Geothermal potential in Chile is huge but there is not yet a geothermal plant online; Chile’s current renewable energy goal is to have 10% renewable capacity by 2024.”
