City of Strasbourg is seeking involvement of the public in geothermal information and evaluation

Following the seismic events connected to a geothermal project in the Alsace region of France, the city of Strasbourg (Eurometropolis Strasbourg) is now seeking the participation of six volunteers for its information and evaluation mission (MIE) on geothermal energy.

Questions, concerns , misunderstanding, geothermal energy in the north of the Strasbourg metropolitan area, linked to the operation of the site operated by a French developer and yet at a standstill, continues to fuel conversations and reflections. Reflections richly nourished by a series of earthquakes which have shaken for a good year ten municipalities, including Strasbourg and sometimes even beyond the Rhine river, in Kehl on the German side of the Upper Rhine Valley.

Also, in order to “objectify the economic, ecological and heritage consequences, as well as the impacts in terms of moral prejudice”, the Eurometropolis sets up an information and evaluation mission (MIE). With the main objective of measuring the interest of its development. In a second step, the MIE will have to formulate proposals on the orientations to be given to implement the energy transition of the territory and will write a report which will be made public and debated by the Eurometropolis council.

For the sake of transparency, six inhabitants of the Eurometropolis and the Eurodistrict will be able to participate in the work of the EIM. A call for applications is launched until February 8 at 10 a.m. and a draw among the applications will take place the same day under the supervision of a bailiff.
