Consultant chosen on geothermal study for Southern Morocco in North Africa

As part of Morocco’s drive for more renewable energy development, Gesto Energy Consulting has been tapped to undertake an investigation of the geothermal potential of the provinces in Southern Morocco.

Gesto Energy Consulting has been selected to evaluate the geothermal potential in the provinces of Southern Morocco in North Africa, spanning an area of more than 140,000 square kilometers of the Moroccan Sahara. The project will comprise of hydrogeological, geochemical, geophysical, and geological investigations with the goal of identifying and classifying different levels of geothermal potential.

This project is a part of Morocco’s new energy strategy that prioritizes the development of renewable energy sources. The long-term goal of this thrust is to achieve 42% of installed power generation capacity from renewable sources by 2020. So far, a strategy for geothermal development in the 60,000 square kilometers of northeastern Morocco has already been completed.
