Drilling campaign for 20 MW project completed at Maibarara

PetroEnergy Resources successfully completed the drilling campaign for its 20 MW Maibarara geothermal power project in Batangas, Philippines. Construction of the plant has reached 50 percent completion.

Philippine PetroEnergy Resources Corp. announces it has successfully completed the well requirements for its 20 MW Maibarara geothermal power project in Santo Tomas, Batangas, Philippines.

The drilling was completed earlier this week and “civil, structural engineering work for the steam-field’s fluid gathering system is 90-percent complete, which brings the total steam-field construction accomplishment to 49 percent.

PERC said the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the power plant being undertaken by EEI Corp. has reached 50-percent completion.

The company said the drilling program, which used DESCO Rig 30 and involved drilling one production well, and one reinjection well and the work over of an existing production well, began on July 10, 2012.

It said MB-12D, the first production well drilled by MGI, reached the target depth of, 2150 meters on August 5, 2012 and was successfully completed on August 10,  14 days ahead of schedule.

PERC said MGI drilled its second well, MB-14D to be used for reinjecting the condensate fluids from the power plant, on August 30, and reached the total target depth of 1,900 meters on October 1. The well, PERC said, was completed on October  6,  or eight days ahead of schedule.

The work-over of the existing production well MB-9D, involving borehole clearing and relining of the 9 5/8” casing, was completed on October 22.

PERC said preliminary downhole surveys and tests indicate the MGI’s drilling campaign achieved its objectives.

With the satisfactory conclusion of the drilling program, MGI now focuses on completing the steam-field, power plant and transmission line facilities, in time for commercial operations in late 2013.

PERC said Maibarara will be the country’s first geothermal power station in six years and the first in Luzon in 16 years.

MGI is 65-percent owned by PERC’s wholly owned subsidiary PetroGreen Energy Corp. along with Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp. and Philippine National Oil Co.-Renewables Corp. owning 25 percent and 10 percent of the project, respectively.”
