Drilling contract for Cerro Prieto project in Mexico awarded

Mexican state power company CFE has awarded the international tender for the drilling of 30 wells at the Cerro Prieto geothermal field in Baja California state to local firm Industrial Perforadora de Campeche (IPC), and awarded a national tender for maintenance to Los Humeros platforms, steam pipelines and steam injection systems.

As reported locally, “Mexican state power company CFE has awarded the international tender for the drilling of 30 wells at the Cerro Prieto geothermal field in Baja California state to local firm Industrial Perforadora de Campeche (IPC), according to federal procurement website Compranet.

IPC submitted a bid of 1.71bn pesos (US$127mn). IPC presented the lowest offer of the five firms that presented bids, a CFE source told BNamericas.

The source said the amount offered per well was inexpensive compared to other CFE geothermal well tenders in recent years and current international prices.

The maximum bid submitted for the works surpassed 2.2bn pesos, the source said.

Works are scheduled to begin September 21 and run 837 days. The tender number is 18164092-013-09.

CFE also awarded a national tender for maintenance to Los Humeros platforms, steam pipelines and steam injection systems, according to Compranet.

Local firm Diseños, Ingeniería y Construcciones won the contract with its bid of 7.13mn pesos. Works began August 14 and are scheduled to take 120 days.”
