EDC awarded for its contribution to local economy in Leyte, Philippines

EDC in the Philippines has received an entrepreneurial award for its contribution to the local business sector near its geothermal plants in Leyte, Philippines.

Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the Philippines’ leading geothermal power producer, has been named as the city’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” by the City Government and the local business sector in Leyte.

EDC has received this award for large businesses/ manufacturers before and this year EDC’s affiliate Therma Prime has received the award under the service category.

The award was handed over in a ceremony at the city hall of Leyte.

“We are honored to receive this recognition. This affirms the value of our humble contribution to the local economy and communities. This will serve as an inspiration and motivation for us to continuously improve our CSR (corporate social responsibility) projects,” Magallanes said.

Emilio Tingson, city business permits and licensing office chief, said they recognize the remarkable contribution of the business sector towards the economy, thus giving them recognition every year. EDC, operator of the world’s second largest wet steam field, was cited for its significant contribution to the local economy and its CSR that help alleviate the lives of the people in its host communities. EDC owns and operates the 701-megawatt Leyte Geothermal Power Field whose power plants are based in this city and Kananga town.
