EDC plans to add 30 MW in capacity to existing geothermal plants
Plans are underway to expand EDC’s existing geothermal facilities to increase the company’s total power production capacity by 30 MW
In a statement made by Energy Development Corporation (EDC) President and COO Richard Tantoco, he indicated that the company is planning to undertake expansion projects in their existing geothermal facilities. This should increase EDC’s total capacity by 30 MW.
“We are likely to issue notice to proceed on one of them within the next six months,” added Tantoco, although no specifics were mentioned on which project site will undergo expansion. Currently, EDC has four commercially operating geothermal sites and 15 other geothermal contract areas.
In a previous press release, the company is said to have earmarked P7.45 billion annual budget, most of which will be used to finance new acquisitions to support the maintenance and operations of their existing geothermal plants in Leyte, Mt. Apo, Negros Island, and Bacon-Manito.
