EDC reports that workers are safe following earthquake at Mt. Apo geothermal plant

EDC has assured that its workers are safe following a serious earthquake at Mount Apo, site of geothermal power operations of the company.

Following reports on an earthquake at the Mt. Apo geothermal power plant in central Mindanao, Philippines before the weekend, Energy Development Corporation (EDC) has assured that all its employees working at the plant are safe and accounted.

In a statement, Romy Kee, plant facility head, said they would like to allay fears of the families and relatives of their 100 employees amid speculations circulating in social media that they were harmed by the recent quake, so the Inquirer. There have been landslides triggered by the tremor at the site of the geothermal plants. The plants at the foot of Mount Apo “were initially affected and were put on turning gear operation only” as a result of the tremor.

The facilities require immediate structural assessment, while the company prioritizes “the safety of our employees, their families, and (the) community in Brgy. Ilomavis.” The company assisted in the relocation of residents for them to be safe from landslides.
