EGEC Webinar – Geothermal as the missing piece to prevent future crises – 14 March, 2022

The webinar on 14 March that will be hosted by EGEC will tackle the role of geothermal in providing flexible and reliable energy at stable prices to Europeans.

The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) will be holding a webinar on 14 March 2022 with the title: “High energy prices: Geothermal as the missing piece to prevent future crises.” Interested participants may register via this link.

Energy prices have soared in Europe because of the explosion of the price of natural gas after two years of pandemic, climate impacts and unforeseen supply chain disruptions. Because of the role of gas as the key provider of flexibility to the electricity system, this price increased has impacted European consumers in their heating bills as well as their electricity bills.

This event will explore the role of a diversification of renewable energy sources, notably looking at geothermal energy technologies, in providing the necessary flexibility to avoid future disruptions and guarantee reliable energy at stable prices to European Consumers. It will seek to provide recommendations for best practices in the geothermal industry, and how recently adopted measures at the European level can be an opportunity for market uptake. It will also look how flexibility from renewables can be better included in the ongoing discussions on the Fit for 55% and the gas package.

European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson will be the keynote speaker for the event.
