Electricité de Strasbourg starts drilling at Illkirch geothermal project, France

The city utility of Strasbourg in the Alsace/ France, Electricité de Strasbourg, has started drilling at its geothermal power and heat project in Illkirch-Graffenstaden.

Reported this morning, Electricité de Strasbourg (ES), the utility in the city of Strasbourg in Alsace/ France has just started the first drilling on the deep geothermal site located in the innovation park in Illkirch-Graffenstaden.

The project plans construction of a geothermal power plant will produce heat and electricity to supply an urban heat network and the surrounding industrial activity. The first well will be drilled to a depth of 3,000 meters and the water to be derived is expected with a temperature of 150 centigrades.

The second well is planned to be drilled in November.
