ETH Zurich establishes new deep geothermal research team

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zuerich, ETH) establishes a multi-disciplinary research team to work on problems of deep geoenergy reservoirs, specifically for enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) and CO2 storage in saline aquifers.

The team will be part of the Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology and will initially comprise five postdoctoral to senior researchers that will participate in a growing cross-disciplinary research program, involving several professorships at ETH and with strong ties to other national and international partner institutions and local industry. The team will have access to unique pilot and demonstration projects on scales ranging from underground laboratories to new boreholes in targeted reservoirs, as well as to cutting edge computational facilities.

Fully financed for the first three years from January 2014, additional funding until 2020 is expected.
