Fervo Energy signs 396-MW geothermal PPA with Google for Utah data center

Fervo Energy has signed a 396-MW geothermal PPA with Google, marking the biggest enhanced geothermal PPA signed to date.

Fervo Energy (Fervo) has announced the signing of a 396-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google. Under the agreement, Fervo will supply power from its Cape Station Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) project in Utah for Google’s potential data center in Utah by June 2030.

This represents the largest enhanced geothermal PPA to date, following a 320-MW PPA also signed by Fervo with Southern California Edison back in 2024. Fervo will also offer Google an option to expand its offtake by approximately 600 MW for a total of nearly 1 GW. Google states that final data center plans still remain subject to several factors including engineering feasibility, state and local approvals, and commercial conditions.

The PPA serves to advance the partnership between Fervo and Google that started with Project Red, Fervo’s commercial pilot project in Nevada which came online in 2023 and is now supplying power to the local grid. In 2024, Google entered into an agreement to purchase 115 MW of geothermal power from Fervo through NV Energy under the new Clean Transition Tariff model, which aims to facilitate investment into clean energy projects through long-term agreements with clients and utilities.

In late 2025, Fervo announced the close of its USD 462 million Series E financing round which brought in Google as an equity investor.

The PPA helps build the commercial foundation of the further expansion of Fervo’s Cape Station GeoCluster beyond its initial 100 MW phase. Through repeatable 50-MW GeoBlock units, Fervo aims to scale its operations and drive down development costs through a repeatable and flexible commercial framework. The Cape Station expansion which will supply power under this PPA is expected to come online in 2028.
