First unit of Theistareykir geothermal plant being tested in Iceland

First unit of the new Theistareykir geothermal power plant is undergoing testing with an expected official start of operation, December 1, 2017.

As reported before the weekend, testing is under way for the first unit of the new Theistareykir geothermal power plant in the North of Iceland. The plant is being built by the national power company of Iceland, Landsvirkjun with turbines being provided by Fuji Electric.

Tests with steam into the turbine of Unit 1 of the plant started on September 28, 2017 and was connected to the grid on October 1st with the full load of 45 MW. There will be further testing required and be carried out until the middle of the month. The plant is expected to to fully start operation in mid-November, with official start on December 1, 2017.

It is expected that it will officially taken into operations on December 1, 2017.
