Fish feed producer invests in geothermal-powered Green Energy Park in Kenya

Fish feed producer Maxim Agri & Samakgro will be putting up a manufacturing facility at KenGen’s geothermal-powered Green Energy Park in Kenya.

Local fish feed production company Maxim Agri & Samakgro has been officially onboarded as the fifth investor in the Green Energy Park, operated by state-owned electricity generation company KenGen. The Green Energy Park is located at the Olkaria geothermal field, thus benefiting from the power tariffs and supply stability of geothermal power.

Maxim Agri & Samakgro will be putting up a facility that will produce 8 MT per hour of fish feed to meet the growing demand of the aquaculture industry. The facility will utilize up to 3 MW of sustainable energy. The project has an estimated value of USD 3.95 million.

This investment is a strong vote of confidence in Kenya’s green industrialization agenda and affirms the growing demand for reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions to power industrial growth,” said KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga during the onboarding ceremony.

“The establishment of an 8MT per hour fish feed production plant at the KenGen Green Energy Park will significantly enhance our production capacity while reducing operational costs through access to efficient power and steam solutions. These efficiencies will enable us to provide more affordable feed to farmers,” added Joachim Westerveld, Director of Maxim Agri & Samakgro.

KenGen also announced the launch of a new Green Energy Park Investor Portal which provides a singular platform to accelerate investments in the Green Energy Park. As Eng. Njenga further commented, the portal gives prospective investors seamless access to information on possible investment opportunities.
