By a new decree signed by the Ministries of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy and the Economy, Industry and Digital in France a new research permit has been granted to a joint venture by the companies Fonroche Géothermie SAS et Electerre de France SAS on January 25, 2016, published on February 2, 2016.
The Decree grants an exclusive license for the geothermal deposits at hight temperature for the license area of Riom Clermont-Metropolis (Puy-de-Dome) to the joint venture of both companies. It is located in the South-Central of France in the Auvergne near Clearmont-Ferrand.
The permit area has a size of 707 square kilometers, northeast of Puy-de-Dôme, and is granted for a period of five years. The decree states in order to compare expenditures the costs of the financial commitment to the grant application, of EUR 10.8 million, the expenses incurred are discounted using the indexing formula in Article 44 of Decree 2006 -648 .
Fonroche company is a major player in the French deep geothermal sector with more than 10 projects under development with a planned investment of EUR 400 million ($446 million) until 2025.
