GDC strucks 17 MW well at Baringo-Silali geothermal project

With an estimated 17 MW output, GDC reports having struck a very successful well at the Paka prospect in the Baringo-Silali geothermal field.

Kenya’s Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has announced a major success at the Paka prospect of the Baringo-Silali geothermal project. The well drilled, we reported on the successful testing, was now confirmed to yield about 17 MW in potential generation capacity.

“This is an impressive well. It is huge and a pointer of a great resource around here,”, so Jared Othieno, Managing Director and CEO of GDC.

GDC has so far drilled five wells for the project. Details on this success were revealed during a field visit by representatives of German development bank KfW. The bank has been financing the project.

German KfW is also behind the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility, a funding scheme that supports early geothermal development work.
