GDC to provide geothermal well logging services to Ethiopia

Kenya’s state-owned Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has signed an agreement with Shandong Kerui Oilfield Service Group Co. Ltd to provide well logging and testing services for two geothermal wells to be drilled in the Aluto area of Ethiopia. This is an important milestone for GDC as the company diversifies its revenue sources and strengthen its position as a leader in geothermal technical expertise in Africa.

According to the agreement, GDC will deploy a a multidisciplinary team to provide specialized personnel and technical expertise in high-temperature well logging, testing, and data interpretation.

Mr. Stephen Busieney, Ag. MD & CEO of GDC, described the contract as one of the first major contracts of the company for this financial year. He also challenged the team to ensure the successful delivery of the assignment with professionalism and dedication to maintain GDC’s reputation as a regional centre of excellence in geothermal development.

Dr. George Muia, General Manager, Business Development and Ag. GM Strategy and Planning at GDC, added that the agreement is the first major operationalization of GDC’s External Consultant Policy. This aims to provide a framework for offering GDC’s technical expertise to external partners and clients, thus achieving the goal of revenue generation and financial sustainability.

Just recently, GDC made a step towards reinforcing its technical capabilities with the groundbreaking of a geothermal laboratory in Nakuru. The Government-Owned Enterprise meanwhile continues geothermal exploration and drilling work at the Suswa site in Narok County.
