Geo Dipa Energi plans to add 400 MW geothermal capacity

Indonesian state-owned geothermal operator and development expects to add up to 400 MW in geothermal power generation capacity in the coming years.

In the context of the recently reported start of first tests of the new 10 MW Dieng small scale geothermal power plant, PT Geo Dipa Energi (GDE) reports targeting geothermal development to reach 400 MW in the next few years.

With its two geothermal power plants of Dieng and Patuha, PT Geo Dipa has a total installed geothermal power generation capacity of 115 MW. The company has a set target of up to 400 MW of development for the Dieng area. At the moment the company plans the development of the Dieng 2 and Dieng 3 additions which would each add 55 MW.

Director of Operations and Commercial Development Geo Dipa Dodi Herman says the small scale project with a capacity of 10 MW now tested is expected to be able to provide economic improvement benefits. In addition, the project development carried out by GeoDipa is a development carried out in a sustainable manner to support the achievement of energy development targets, especially environmentally friendly geothermal.

“As the only fully state-owned company in the geothermal sector, GeoDipa is committed to be able to meet the target of using new renewable energy into electricity through the utilization of geothermal potential,” said Dodi.

The 10 MW Dieng Small Scale PLTP has also been included in the RUPTL national strategic program (2019-2018), the 2017-2025 EBTKE Geothermal Road Map, even including the Priority Activities for Monitoring President Jokowi’s Staff Office which is always monitored to increase the Installed Capacity of PLTP in Indonesia. .

“Geothermal development as a renewable energy source is very important in ensuring sustainability and energy security, one of which is as a supplier of electrical energy in Indonesia. The construction of the 10 MW Dieng Small Scale PLTP is also one of the efforts and commitments made by GeoDipa to support government programs, “said Dodi.

This US $ 21 million project is also in synergy with the Special Mission Vehicle (SMV) under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, in which the project financing obtains a loan from PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) “PT SMI”.

First Blow Small Scale Turbine is an experimental stage of turbine operation but there is no electricity loading, meaning that the activity of rotating this turbine has not yet produced electrical energy.

In addition to the First Blow Small Scale activity, GeoDipa also provided assistance in the form of 4830 basic food packages for underprivileged residents and compensation to 100 orphans in the work area of ??PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero) Dieng Unit which is spread across 3 districts, namely Banjarnegara Regency, Wonosobo Regency. , and Batang Regency.

Furthermore, Geo Dipa is focusing on running the Dieng Unit-2 project with a capacity of 55 MW which will also supply the Java, Madura and Bali (Jamali) electricity systems. “Preparation for drilling wells first, drilling approximately 10 wells,” said Dodi.

This project is targeted for a Commercial Operation Date (COD) in 2023. Apart from Dieng Unit-2, Geo Dipa is also working on Patuha Unit-2 in parallel with the same capacity.

To carry out this project, Geo Dipa has obtained funding of up to US $335 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to finance projects totaling US $ 400 million.
