Geothermal Council welcomes Carlos Jorquera as President

Carlos Jorquera has been named President of the Geothermal Council, an organisation representing geothermal companies and developers in Chile.

The Geothermal Council of Chile, founded in 2013, is pleased to announce and welcome Carlos Jorquera Ruz as president of the organisation. Since the formation of the Council, Carlos has been related to the institution and has supported us in various initiatives that we have discussed with the Ministry of Energy, the CNE and other public and private institutions, both national and international.

Carlos Jorquera is an industrial civil engineer & MBA in Business Management (from UTFSM) and MBA in Energy Economics (Uni. Offenburg, Germany), with extensive experience in the geothermal sector. He started in 2007 in the sector working for a geothermal group in Iceland and has served in different positions as a consultant, representative of Icelandic companies for Latin America, and executive positions in national geothermal companies. In addition, since 2016 he leads PiensaGeotermia, the Spanish-language geothermal news platform of ThinkGeoEnergy, where he focuses on the work of the geothermal industry at a global level with a focus on Latin America. He currently holds the position of Deputy Project Manager at Espinos S.A., where he is enhancing the company’s renewable portfolio.

“As a geothermal organisation we reaffirm our desire to contribute to the achievement of climate and carbon neutrality goals, with sustainable development and society in general. We have worked and will continue to work to contribute to the achievement of the Carbon Neutrality goal by 2050, since we are convinced that Geothermal energy is the energy that can successfully replace coal and at the same time take charge of the degraded hydraulic generation that the country faces. It is a proven technology (there are plants with more than 100 years in operation), clean, base, with inertia, safe and with tremendous potential to be developed throughout Chile, from Arica to Punta Arenas, currently with 3500 MW tested and a potential between 16,000 and 25,000 MW.” so the statement by the group.

ThinkGeoEnergy congratulates Carlos and the Council for the appointment.
