Geothermal District Heating, an alternative to Russian gas for EU

In a press release from GEO DH it states that geothermal heating is readily available for nearly 25% of households and across all 28 countries in the EU.

According to the press release, geothermal district heating is a real, viable and near immediate solution for the dependency that the EU has for Russian gas. This is now more relevant than ever, considering that tensions between the EU and Russia are at a peak.

Bearing this in mind, the release states that,

The geothermal potential is recognised by some EU Member States in their National Renewable Energy Action Plans. However, the actual potential is significantly larger. In order to increase awareness, GEODH[2], an IEE project co-financed by the EU[3] – has assessed and presented for the first time the potential in Europe on an interactive map.
