Geothermal heat and power project in Palling, Germany receives go-ahead from local council

The geothermal project at Palling by developer Erdwärme Chiemgau has received the necessary council approval to go ahead. Drilling can start as early as the summer of 2020.

Developer Erdwärme Chiemgau has received the local city council approval for the development of its geothermal heat and power project in Allerding, north of the municipality of Palling in Bavaria/ Germany.

The city council approved the plans for the construction of a geothermal plant with a capacity of 100 MW thermal and 14 MW electric that will deliver electricity and heat to neighbouring communities.

Erdwärme Chiemgau GmbH now plans to start work as early as summer 2020.

The plant is planned with at least two production and two re-injection wells to ensure continuous and base load capable energy generation and supply. At depths of 4,200 to 4,700 meters, the holes in the carbonates of the Upper Jurassic are said to tap deep water at a temperature of around 122 degrees C and to extract over 150 l / s each.

Drilling is scheduled to begin in summer 2020 and to be completed by 2022. From then on, the communities of Palling and Trostberg and other surrounding communities are to be supplied with heat and electricity. A power plant with an output of approx. 14 MWel is planned to be built in Allerding.
