Geothermal potential of Denizli, Türkiye highlighted in new report
A new report published by the JMO Geothermal Commission highlights the current state and future potential of geothermal development in Denizli, Türkiye.
The rich geothermal resources in the province of Denizli in Türkiye have been comprehensively analyzed in a newly published report. Titled “Assessment of Denizli’s Geothermal Resources for Potential, Developability, and Economic Utilization Options,” the report was prepared under the Geothermal Resources and Natural Mineral Waters Commission of the Chamber of Geological Engineers. It provides a multidimensional evaluation of Denizli’s geothermal potential, development opportunities, and economically beneficial areas.
The author of the report, Dr. Hafize Akilli, is also a member of the Chamber of Geological Engineers’ Geothermal Resources and Natural Mineral Waters Commission. In this study, Dr. Akilli meticulously analyzes the current state of Denizli’s geothermal resources and presents recommendations on how to utilize this potential more efficiently. The report specifically details strategic steps aimed at enhancing economic gains in the energy, tourism, and agriculture sectors.
A comprehensive examination of Denizli’s geothermal fields
The report provides a detailed analysis of geothermal fields across different districts of Denizli. The key areas highlighted include:
- Saraykoy District: Home to Kizildere and Tekkehamam geothermal fields, which host some of Türkiye’s most renowned geothermal power plants.
- Buldan District: The Bolmekaya and Yenice-Kamara fields offer significant potential for energy production and thermal tourism.
- Pamukkale District: Pamukkale, Karahayit, and Golemezli stand out for their tourism and health investment potential.
- Cardak and Honaz Districts: Lesser known but promising geothermal sources open for development.

The hot water sources emerging along the Buyuk Menderes and Curuksu grabens hold significant potential for both energy and tourism.
