Geothermal projects selected in recently held clean energy auction in Mexico, with details about winning entities to be announced this week.

Publishing the preliminary results of the second long-term clean energy electricity auction in Mexico, the government has awarded about 2% of the total amount of energy to geothermal energy projects. The announcement came on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

There were 57 bidders with economic offers, of which 23 were awarded preliminary. The projects selected in the auction have a capacity of 3,776 MW generation in total. From the above, 2,871 MW will be installed in new power plants anchored by the auction, which it is estimated that the auction will result in an investment of 4.0 billion dollars over the next 3 years.

The prices for Clean Energy projects (energy + Clean Energy Certificates) is US$ 33.47/ MWh plus Clean Energy Certificates.

There is still an ongoing validation process, therefore official winning bids and the decision will be announced this week.  But we assume that the geothermal projects represent a capacity of around 75 MW in total.
