Geothermal Stakeholder Workshop, 21 June 2022 – Izmir, Turkey
The Horizon 2020 EU-funded REFLECT project will be conducting a Geothermal Stakeholder Workshop on 21 June 2022 in the Kaya Izmir Thermal & Convention in Izmir, Turkey. The event aims to showcase the results of the REFLECT project and to learn from geothermal operators about the challenges that they encounter.
Registration for the event is currently open via this link. The event is in-person only and online participation will not be possible.
The efficiency of geothermal utilisation depends on the behaviour of fluids that transfer heat between the geosphere and the engineered components of a power plant. Scaling and corrosion are the cause of downtime, maintenance costs and even failures in geothermal installations. REFLECT aims to prevent these problems related to fluid chemistry rather than treat them.
REFLECT has been collecting new, high-quality data in critical areas to tackle these uncertainties. The existing and new data collected will be implemented in a European Geothermal Fluid Atlas and in predictive models. These and other relevant results for improving the efficiency of geothermal operations will be shared with the workshop participants.
The workshop will focus on:
- Geochemical challenges related to high-temperature geothermal fluids with examples from Turkey and Iceland.
- Geochemical challenges of saline and low temperature geothermal operation with examples from Germany and the Netherlands.
- Results from REFLECT’s investigations on scaling, degassing and the influence of microbial activity on geothermal operations.
- Tools for prediction of geothermal challenges and improving plant operations: the high-temperature geothermal fluid sampler developed in REFLECT, the Fluid Atlas and software tools for predictive modelling.
Participation of geothermal operators, consultants, investors, project developers, or technology developers is highly encouraged.
