Green Therma signs drilling contract for closed-loop geothermal demonstration in Denmark
H&P has been selected as the drilling contractor for Green Therma’s geothermal project in Aalborg, Denmark which will demonstrate the Heat4Ever technology.
Green Therma has awarded the drilling rig contract to Helmerich & Payne (H&P) for the drilling of a geothermal well in Aalborg, Denmark as part of the Heat4Ever™ demonstration project. Spudding of the well is targeted for January 2027.
The project aims to demonstrate Green Therma’s Heat4Ever technology, a closed-loop, single-well system using DualVac technology in which water circulates within the well and exchanges its heat with the district heating. The well is planned to reach approximately 4 km vertical depth, followed by a horizontal section of around 3 km. This will effectively make it the deepest and longest well to be drilled in Denmark.
The demonstration project has been developed with Aalborg Forsyning as heat off-taker and has received funding support of DKK 84 million from Denmark’s Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP).

H&P will provide Rig T203, together with its experienced drilling team and operational expertise, to safely execute the well.

In addition to the Aalborg demonstration project, Green Therma will also be deploying their DualVac technology at the Groß Schönebeck in Germany. The project is scheduled start in 2026 and will involve the installation of the well to depths of over 3 kilometers, where temperatures above 100 °C are expected.
