GreenFire Energy appoints Andy Sabin from U.S. Navy to Advisory Board

Geothermal expert at the U.S. Navy, Andy Sabin, Ph.D. has been appointed to the Advisory Board of U.S.-based closed-loop geothermal company GreenFire Energy.

U.S.-based closed-loop geothermal companyGreenFire Energy Inc. announced the appointment of Andy Sabin Ph.D., geothermal subject matter expert (SME), U.S. Navy, to its Advisory Board. Dr. Sabin is an influential technical and policy expert in the geothermal industry and serves on the Board of Directors of the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and is the former president of Geothermal Rising (formerly the Geothermal Resources Council). His expertise will help GreenFire Energy to prioritize its many commercial opportunities.

Dr. Sabin is a well-known geothermal executive with 20+ years of experience in the industry and in global geothermal associations. As the subject matter expert and former director of the U.S. Navy’s Geothermal Program Office, he is involved in the development and management of geothermal systems on Department of Defense (DoD) lands. Dr. Sabin has technical oversight of programs and provides liaison with the DoD, industry organizations, and academia on geothermal systems.

The U.S. Navy owns the bulk of the large Coso Geothermal Field in Coso, California, which has been operating and selling electricity for 30+ years. Coso was the site chosen for GreenFire Energy’s successful field-scale demonstration of closed-loop geothermal where Dr. Sabin led a large field trip of geothermal professionals to visit the installation. His wealth of experience includes serving on the Board of Directors for the IGA where he is the chair of the finance committee. His leadership as the former president of Geothermal Rising, which is the world’s oldest and largest geothermal industry association, intensified the efforts to champion geothermal to meet global energy needs and raise the awareness of the organization through its rebranding. Dr. Sabin earned his Ph.D. at the Colorado School of Mines, a MSc at the University of Pittsburgh, and a BS at the University of Maryland in geology.
