Helge-Uve Braun, SWM elected President of German geothermal association

The German Geothermal Association elects Helge-Uve Braun, Technical Director at Stadtwerke Muenchen (SWM) as President.

During the general assembly of the Federal Geothermal Association (BVG), the technical director of Stadwerke Muenchen (SWM), the city utility of  Munich, Helge-Uve Braun, was elected as the new president. He replaces the long-standing BVG President Erwin Knapek, who will remain with the association as honorary president.

Helge-Uve Braun is a qualified engineer for power plant technology. He has been with SWM since 2004 and Technical Director since 2017. His responsibility includes the implementation of the heating transition and the associated expansion of geothermal energy in Munich and the region. The SWM want to meet Munich’s demand for district heating by 2040 at the latest in a CO2-neutral manner. For the most part, they will use geothermal energy. SWM currently operates six geothermal systems, and more are being planned in the city and in the region.

In addition to his new position at the BVG, Helge-Uve Braun is also involved with the AGFW (Energy Efficiency Association for Heating, Cooling and CHP) and the BDEW (Federal Association of Energy and Water Management).
