The 4th Iceland Geothermal Conference (IGC) will be hosted in Iceland in April 2018. The focus is on the business environment through three separate themes:
VISION – DEVELOPMENT – OPERATION
18 exciting sessions, at least 10 panels and 30 exhibition booths will be on offer at the IGC 2018 Conference. Participating will be government officials, ministers, policy makers, and top business leaders from across the geothermal energy sector and its associated industries. The conference offers an in-depth discussion on the barriers that hinder fast development of the geothermal sector and how to overcome them.

THEME A – VISION – FOUR SESSIONS
- A1 – Winning Public Acceptance: Topics include energy security, social acceptability, how to measure sustainability of power projects, and grid stability. High-level speakers will share there experience and stories.
- A2 – Setting the Frame for Success: Leading specialists will present an overview on regulations across the world, as well as give an in-depth introduction into the framework of leading countries.
- A3 – Competitiveness & Innovation: Can future developments like the IDDP-3help raise interest? Is there a need to focus more on business, how can we get private investors more involved?
- A4 – District Heating: This market opportunity has received limited interest in the geothermal community. Information on the economical, social and global benefits of district heating will be shared in this session.
THEME B – DEVELOPMENT – FOUR SESSIONS
- B1 – Financing Market Growth: Four leading financial bodies will share information on what they are doing to speed up market growth. A panel will give more insight and answers to fundamental questions regarding financial schemes for the geothermal sector.
- B2 – Project Updates: This session is for sharing updates on summaries of geothermal development. Carefully selected project representatives share their information on new developments. Five updates will be presented in this session.
- B3 – Setting Up a Successful Project: What factors can influence and improve the likelihood of a successful project? This topic includes risk mitigation funds, modelling and an introduction of strategies on how to approach drilling contracts.
- B4 – Project Updates: This session is for sharing updates on summaries of geothermal development. Carefully selected project representatives share their information on new developments. Six updates will be presented in this session.
THEME C – OPERATION – FOUR SESSIONS
- C1 – Impacting Operating Costs and Revenues: Success and failure are both important steps towards learning what can impact future outcomes. Specialists will share their experience on how to influence the accumulation of future costs and how to make an impact on revenues.
- C2 – Plant Technologies & Knowledge Transfer: How can we build more efficient power plants? In this session, leading technology developers and consultants will address topics such as knowledge transfer, flexibility in power generation, managing silica deposits and more.
- C3 – Securing Long-term Sustainability: Topics include lessons learned from IDDP-2, field re-injections, and operational sustainability. Four specialists will share what steps can be taken to improve the sustainability of a geothermal field.
- C4 – New Revenue Streams: Traditional value streams, electricity generation and thermal energy. This session introduce what technologies are available and which solutions are a viable choice to provide diversified revenue generation for power plant owners.
BREAKOUT – FOUR SESSIONS
- D1 – Iceland School of Energy (ISE): ISE has become a leading university in the fields of research collaboration and student exchange. It offers private companies and individuals the opportunity to specialize in geothermal energy.
- D2 – The UNU-GTP 40th: High-level speakers, which have been part of the UNU-GTP’s 40-year history, will give addresses on what has been done and what the future of the university looks like.
- D3 – The UNU-GTP 40th: An introduction of current work being carried out by students at the UNU-GTP. A new group of students started this year and it will be interesting to learn what they are working on.
- D4 – The World Bank: Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), the World Bank Group will have a breakout session going over what has been done in connection to the Global Geothermal Development Plan (GGDP).
