IGA launches and opens nomination period for Best Paper Awards

To promote research and publication in the field of geothermal energy, the International Geothermal Association (IGA) has established this Best Paper Award to recognize authors of papers published in internationally peer-reviewed scientific journals annually.

In order to promote research and publication in the field of geothermal energy, the International Geothermal Association (IGA) has established this Best Paper Award to recognize authors of papers published in internationally peer-reviewed scientific journals annually.

The prize shall be $500 per paper plus a certificate issued by the IGA president. For papers with more than one author, the prize shall be offered to the first author and subsequent division of the prize will be up to the first author. However, each of the authors shall receive a separate certificate.

Eligibility and selection criteria

The Best Paper Award honors the author(s) of a paper of exceptional merit dealing with a subject related to geothermal energy exploration, development and utilization.

The winners are chosen by the award evaluation committee based on significance, novelty, originality, presentation, and practical implications of the paper. Papers published during the past five-year period are considered eligible for the award. For example, for the 2014 awarding year, papers to be considered must have been printed with page numbers on and after January 1, 2009.

Self-nominations are not considered. An open call for nominations will be announced on the official IGA website annually. Nominations will also be solicited from the IGA membership. Re-nomination is acceptable.

Nomination

An IGA member is allowed to nominate not more than two papers per year to the IGA evaluation committee for consideration. A letter of less than three pages to support the nomination is required. The IGA will officially announce the prize on an annual basis on the IGA website – and will of course inform the winner(s).
