Inaugural Kenya Geothermal Conference, Nairobi, Kenya November 21-23, 2011

The Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) together with its partners will host the inaugural Kenya Geothermal Conference from November 21-23, 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Announced last week, “The Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) together with its partners will host the inaugural Kenya Geothermal Conference from November 21-23, 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The conference convenes at a time when the world over are constantly searching for diverse energy sources to help power their growing economies, industries and populations. Kenya is now developing geothermal energy to reduce reliance on hydro and thermal generated electricity.

The conference will feature distinguished speakers, scientists, engineers, financiers and other key players in the geothermal and energy sector in Kenya. It will also open its doors to exhibitors to showcase their projects, equipment and services.

According Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) chairman Dr Silas Simiyu, delegates will have a field trip to geothermal projects in Kenya’s Rift Valley. The managing Director of Kenya Geothermal Development Company says among the topics to be covered are surface exploration, drilling, power generation and transmission, reservoir engineering and management, steam field development.

Other topics will cover environment and social issues, economics and finance, Manpower development and legal and regulatory matters GAK is a non-political and non-governmental association which is an affiliate member of the renowned International Geothermal Association (IGA).

The association aims to inspire, facilitate and promote coordination of activities related to local and worldwide research, development and application of geothermal resources. Other objectives of GAK will be to encourage research, development and utilization of geothermal energy in Kenya.

It also advances and promote the establishment of criteria for the exploration and development of geothermal resource. Besides, GAK will facilitate the enactment and adoption of uniform and appropriate legislation, rules and regulations for the development and utilization of geothermal energy resources. GAK also provides a platform for information sharing on the nature of geothermal energy and its development.”
