Indonesia to set geothermal electricity price at 9.7 US cents/ kWh

The Indonesian government will set the selling price of private geothermal power plants that are included in the 10,000 Megawatt acceleration project on the second phase. The state power company PLN will later buy the electricity on US$0.097 per kilowatt hour.

Reported in local news, “the (Indonesian) government will decide the selling price of the private geothermal power plant which is included in the 10,000 Megawatt acceleration project on the second phase. The state power company PLN will later buy the electricity on US$0.097 per kilowatt hour.

Director General for electricity and energy usage at the Energy and Mineral Resources Department J. Purwono said that the price is the resistant price for PLN to negotiate with the geothermal power plant developers.

“The price will be set in the ministerial regulation which will be issued in December,” said Purwono in Jakarta on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

The price setting will not made the electricity subsidy swelling since the geothermal electricity will be able to be used in the next four years. The ongoing contracts between PLN and the geothermal power plant developer will be continued.”
