Initial work started at geothermal project in St. Vincent, Caribbean
Caribbean island state of St. Vincent and the Grenadines sees the start of early work on a potential geothermal project, lead by Icelandic company Reykjavik Geothermal.
Late last week, the Caribbean island state of St Vincent and the Grenadines launched a geothermal energy initiative.

Speaking at the launch of the first activities for the project, the state’s Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves describes the efforts as a “potentially game changing initiative2.
He believes that the progress now made on the project could be of great interest to neighboring countries, e.g. St. Lucia and Barbados.
The state has contracted Reykjavik Geothermal, which is now continuing its early work to establish the concrete possibilities and resources for geothermal development in the state. Early studies indicate the opportunity for development and it early scientific data is now being analyzed to estimate the potential.
It is now planned to do surface exploration work with staff members of Reykjavik Geothermal planning to remain on the island state until mid-December also visiting the Soufriere Mountains.
