Job: Post-doctoral researcher, Geothermal Reservoir Characterization, Iceland
The Iceland School of Energy at Reykjavik University is looking to fill the position of post-doctoral researcher to join the project Data Fusion for Geothermal Reservoirs.
The group for Operations Research and Subsurface Modelling (ORSM) at the Iceland School of Energy at Reykjavik University is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to join the project Data Fusion for Geothermal Reservoirs. The purpose of this project is to improve the accuracy of reservoir models by developing methods to constrain these models to data from different geophysical and geological surveys, and field production data. Inversion algorithms and Bayesian inference techniques such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) will be used to construct an ensemble of geologically plausible models, that are consistent with available data for hydrothermal systems.
The successful candidate could contribute to:
- Development and implementation of algorithms for generation of statistically representative candidate models
- Fusion of exploration data and synthetic data through geoscientific simulation computations
- Inversion and statistical inference
- Code development
ORSM is a collaboration between researchers at Reykjavík University, The University of Iceland, and industry partners. Our work has primarily been focused on bringing the methods of Operations Research into the field of Reservoir Engineering. Projects have involved lumped parameter modelling of geothermal reservoirs, development of optimal production strategies for sustainable operation, automated well placement, risk mitigation etc. Typically, 10 – 15 members are involved in the group at each time. We have active participation and collaboration with industry partners both in terms of research activity and field data.
The position is for two years and the successful applicant will be based at Reykjavík University in Iceland.
Qualifications: The candidate should have a Ph.D. in geoscience, applied mathematics, data science, reservoir engineering or related fields.
It is preferable if the applicant has a background or strong interest in:
- Computational modelling of subsurface systems with an emphasis on geological, geophysical or reservoir properties.
- Machine learning and/or Bayesian inference and statistics.
