Job: Researcher – Geothermal Science & Technology, TU Darmstadt, Germany

The Geothermal Science and Technology group (Prof. Dr. Ingo Sass) at Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for the position of a Researcher – 75% starting as soon as possible.

The vacancy is part of the EU-NW INTEREG DGE-Rollout program funded until Oktober 2022.

The goal of the project is to develop a numerical representation of crystalline reservoirs to model enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) and underground thermal energy storages (UTES). This will be developed from outcrop analogue investigations, starting with terrestrial laser scanning or photogrammetry of the target area, sampling and lab measurements of rock and fracture properties, via data processing and modelling to all-encompassing models, which will be benchmarked against artificial and real models and analogues.

Your duties:

• Multi-method analysis of relevant crystalline reservoir analogues
• Develop a workflow to create multiple conceptual 1D and 3D models for dedicated geothermal target areas including
  • Petrophysical properties
  • Structural geology, including fracture network characterization
  • Rock mechanical properties
  • Fluid flow modelling
• Publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Your Skills:

• Knowledge of geophysics, especially in ground penetrating radar and seismic tomography
• Experience in fracture network modelling and structural modelling
• Experience in petrophysics and rock mechanics
• Experience in 3D modelling

Your Qualifications:

• University degree (Dipl. Univ./Master) in Applied Geology or Geophysics or related fields
• High proficiency in German and/or English

Further desirable soft skills and qualifications:

• Experience and/or willingness to work in cooperative scientific teams
• Skills in interdisciplinary, on-time, goal- and team-oriented work
• Extended knowledge of the description of reservoir systems by hydrogeological and geothermal characteristics
