Kaishan breaks ground on turbine manufacturing facility in Loxley, Alabama

Kaishan, through Terravanta Power Systems, is constructing a facility to manufacture geothermal power generation equipment in Loxley, Alabama.
Kaishan Compressor USA (KCA), through its wholly owned subsidiary Terravanta Power Systems LLC (TPS), has officially broken ground on the construction of a facility in Loxley, Alabama in the USA that will manufacture the company’s portfolio of equipment, including large screw expanders for ORC systems, steam expanders, back-pressure steam turbines, two-stage screw expanders, and modular power plants.
The facility is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2027, with the building for engine manufacturing following by mid-2028.
As said by Chairman Cao Kejian stated during the groundbreaking ceremony, breakthroughs in EGS development technology in the US and the huge electricity demand from data centers is expected to create a growing demand for geothermal power generation equipment. By putting up the only geothermal power generation equipment factory in the US, the company secures a critical position to address the anticipated bottleneck in turbomachinery manufacturing in the growing US geothermal sector.
During his keynote speech, Dr. Tang Yan, General Manager of the Kaishan Holding Group, said that their solutions can be tailored to produce optimal power cycles for various resource conditions, whether for low, medium, or high-enthalpy.
The Kaishan Holding Group is already involved in geothermal project development and operation in the US through wholly owned subsidiary Open Mountain Energy (OME). The company had recently signed a term sheet to develop an enhanced geothermal system (EGS) at its Humboldt House geothermal resource area in Nevada.
Kaishan also owns and operates geothermal power projects in Kenya, Indonesia, and Hungary. Through its power generation equipment manufacturing and EPC service capabilities, Kaishan has supported many geothermal power projects all over the world through many years.
“The city of Loxley is proud to welcome Terravanta Power Systems to our community,” said Richard Teal, mayor of Loxley. “This $74.5 million investment and the creation of 63 new jobs represent another significant milestone in Loxley’s continued growth and economic development. We are excited that Terravanta Power Systems has chosen Loxley as the home for this innovative manufacturing operation supporting the future of geothermal energy.”
Kaishan adds that the investment was entirely funded by KCA, using a combination of the company’s own funds and bank financing. When completed, the factory will cover 12 acres and will include two industrial buildings with a total area of 22,000 square meters. One building will be used for engine manufacturing, while the other will be used for power generation assembly. According to Keith Schumacher, CEO of KCA, the project has already provided about 75 jobs for the local community, with about 65 more high-paying jobs to be available once the factory is operational.
