KUTh Energy with new promising finds in Tasmania, Australia

Australian KUTh Energy informs about having “recorded 10 new heat flow results as part of its Tasmanian hot rock geothermal project across Tasmanian tenements of the company.”

In a company announcement, Australian KUTh Energy (ASX:KEN) informs about having “recorded 10 new heat flow results as part of its Tasmanian hot rock geothermal project across Tasmanian tenements SEL 26/2005 and SEL 45/2007.

The new results are consistent with previously released heat flow results and the current geological model of the area, providing a further clear indication of the existence of a substantial hot rock geothermal zone.

KUTh reports that an area of 620 square miles (4,170 sq km) is estimated to have anomalously high heat flow greater than 90 milliWatts per square meter (mWm2) with a 239-square-mile (620-sq-km) zone of intensified high heat flow of above 100 mWm2.

The integration of new and existing data will enhance KUTh Energy’s targeting for production drilling. Work is focusing on a 19-square-mile (50-sq-km) area in which the zone of intensified high heat flow coincides with hot rock granite predicted to be around three kilometers to four kilometers (1.8 miles to 2.5 miles) depth.

According to KUTh, the results to date provide a solid foundation for continued development of the project toward commercial electricity generation.

Estimates of surface heat flow provide an indication of the heat energy that is emitted from the Earth and will vary locally depending upon the properties of the underlying crust and mantle, KUTh said in a statement.

The estimates were recorded using purposed-drilled shallow bore holes of less than 250 meters (820 ft) located on a 20 kilometer by 20 kilometer (12.4 mile by 12.4 mile) grid. A total of 31 heat flow estimates are now available for Tasmania, with only five points now outstanding, representing an 81 percent completion of the current heat flow exploration program.”
