Low temperature field discovered in Anhui Province, China

A large new low-temperature geothermal field has been discovered in Bozhou City in Anhui Province China, with indications for a potential source for geothermal heating.

A geothermal field covering an area of more than 70 square kilometers was found in the city of Bozhou, Anhui province on Wednesday, according to the provincial geological environment regulator.

In the news it is described that the field has sufficient heat for geothermal power generation, but ThinkGeoEnergy doubts that. The field is located near the city of Bozhou, in Anhui province, which is in the Southwest of China, between Shanghai and Xi-an.

Earlier news reported on the field from earlier this summer, talk about a geothermal field  with low-temperature geothermal resources, with a fluid temperature of 41 ~ 65 ?.

If it is fully exploited, the total amount of terrestrial heat will be equivalent of 8.27 million tonnes of coal, but only the former can reduce as many as 200,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.

“The geothermal field is the first of its kind in the province and among the few in China,” said Guan Yu, deputy director of the Anhui Geological Environment Monitoring Station.
