Margün Enerji plans exploratory geothermal drilling campaign in Buldan, Denizli, Türkiye

Margün Enerji plans to drill eight exploratory geothermal wells in Buldan in Denizli, Türkiye as part of the development plan for its portfolio of licenses.
Margün Geothermal Energy Production Inc. (Margün Jeotermal Enerji Üretim A.S.) has announced plans to drill eight exploration geothermal wells in the Buldan district of Denizli, Türkiye. Based on the results of drilling and testing, the company will then decide whether the potential geothermal resource can be used for electricity generation or for other applications.
Margün Geothermal Energy was established by Margün Enerji to develop its geothermal investments. Earlier this year, Margün Enerji acquired nine geothermal resource licenses located in Denizli and Manisa, thus incorporating a geothermal portfolio with an estimated development capacity of 505 MWe. The project will require an investment of approximately TRY 439 million (USD 8.9 million).
The aim of the drilling operations is to obtain data on the subsurface geology and tectonic structure of the region, and to determine the temperature, flow rate, and chemical properties of the geothermal fluid. Based on the results obtained, it is planned that the wells will be evaluated as production or reinjection wells for geothermal electricity generation. If the necessary conditions for electricity generation cannot be met, different uses of the wells such as reinjection, heating, or thermal tourism can be considered.
The new drilling plan is a continuation of Margün Enerji’s preparations for geothermal investment in Buldan. The company had also previously acquired land in Buldan as part of its development efforts.
