Mariott Drilling establishes Taiwan presence targeting Asia-Pacific geothermal market

Marriott Drilling has expanded its drilling business to Taiwan in a bid to provide its drilling services to the geothermal market in the Asia-Pacific region.
UK-based drilling group Marriott Drilling Group, has officially established Marriott Drilling Taiwan Co. Ltd., seeking to strengthen its presence to serve the geothermal, CCUS, and energy engineering markets in the Asia-Pacific region. The company also seeks to attract cooperation with Taiwanese investors to establish local manufacturing and logistics facilities.
Marriott states that it aims to complement Taiwan’s 3G (geological, geophysical, and geochemical) expertise with its own high-temperature deep geothermal drilling technology, automated drilling equipment, wellbore design, and engineering management systems to create a complete subsurface energy engineering platform. This will help reduce the risks of geothermal development in Taiwan, and also improve the safety of carbon sequestration in CCUS projects.
The company added that it will continue to implement the safety standards of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), establish a construction quality and talent training system that meets international standards, and build a professional team that prioritizes engineering quality., safety management, and environment sustainability.
Looking ahead, Marriott intends to use Taiwan as the centers of its operations in the Asia-Pacific region. The company’s technology, talent, and industrial capital will eventually be deployed in high-potential geothermal markets like Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan. One of the goals for this international expansion is to make Taiwan not just a global semiconductor hub, but also a central hub for zero-carbon energy technologies and expertise.
Marriott Drilling has more than 10 years of experience in drilling for geothermal projects in Kenya and other East African countries. More recently, the company has been engaged for rig services for geothermal drilling in Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
