Montserrat geothermal project continues drilling campaign on third well

The Montserrat geothermal project continues drilling campaign on third well with so far promising results on temperature provided.

In a recent radio piece from Caribbean island state of Montserrat Radio, an update is provided on the Montserrat geothermal project.

In the piece Nicolas Reyes, the Geothermal Project Manager at the Government of Montserrat provides an update on the drilling activities for well no. 3.

The company has reached a critical stage of drilling at now 1,600 meters depth … at 1,315 meters the production zone was hit. The temperature seems to be good at around 100 degrees Celsius, but tests are conducted and there are expectations that temperature will be above 200 degrees

The company will continue to drill up to 2,500 meters in the hope to reach a permeable formation that would provide sufficient flow for the operation of a geothermal power plant.

The developer is also inviting the community to visit the drill site in tours organised once a week.
