Nevis administration approves Environmental Impact Assessment for project

Nevis Island Administration approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for West Indies Power’s 8.5 MW geothermal power project on Nevis.

In a release yesterday, West Indies Power announces that “on April 15th the Nevis Island Administration approved the company’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the development and operation of an 8.5MW single flash geothermal plant at Spring Hill as well as the installation of an electrical transmission system to connect the geothermal plant to the Nevis electrical grid.

Kerry McDonald, CEO of WIP stated: “This is a great moment for the geothermal project on Nevis and the Caribbean. This approval is one of the requirements needed to complete the financing of the geothermal project by the Export Import Bank of the United States and to allow WIP to commence physical work at Spring Hill so that it can provide geothermal power to Nevis in 2012.”

West Indies Power Holding B.V. is an independent power producer specializing in the development of geothermal energy in the Caribbean with operations on the islands of Nevis, Saba and Dominica.”
