Nicaragua offers its help and experience for Bolivia’s geothermal development plans, in particular for the country’s Laguna Colorada geothermal project.

The Minister of Electric Energy of Nicaragua, Ernesto Martinez, offers his country’s help and experience in geothermal development to Bolivia.

“We want to share our knowledge with our sister nations and there is no better time than now to offer that help, as Bolivia plans to become the powerhouse of the region.”, he said at a press conference.

The Energy Minister said his country has great experience having for now more than 32 years exploited geothermal energy in Nicaragua. The country offers its help through sharing experience and scientific and technical know-how for Bolivia’s Laguna Colorada geothermal project. This project site, located in the southern department of Potosi, it is planned to develop a 50 MW geothermal power plant and Nicaragua could provide its support for this project.

Martinez said that Nicaragua has developed geothermal power generation projects since 1983, having positioned the country as one of top countries in geothermal power generation with currently 170 MW installed capacity.  With the experience of Bolivia in the exploration for and exploitation of hydrocarbons, both countries could share its experience and know-how.
