Orcan Energy and E.ON to partner on industrial heatpower technology offering

German Orcan Energy and E.ON Business Solutions have announced a cooperation for carbon-free power supply for industry based on heat power technology that is well suited also for the geothermal energy sector.

In a release yesterday, German Orcan Energy and E.ON announced a cooperation for carbon-free power supply for industry based on heat power technology.

Today, around half of the heat used in industry is lost. It is released into the air, even though it is very valuable. If industrial waste heat were used optimally, more than 23 terawatt hours of carbon-free, clean electricity could be generated per year in Germany alone. This in turn could supply 7.3 million, or 18 percent, of all German households.

To make a greater use of this huge potential in the future, E.ON and Orcan Energy, the leading manufacturer of waste heat solutions, are now joining forces: in cooperation, both companies are now offering innovative second-generation ORC solutions (efficiency PACKs) as an all-round carefree package. Specifically, this means that E.ON delivers its customers with carbon-free and cost-effective electricity, which is obtained from the customer’s waste heat through solutions by Orcan Energy. From planning to installation, financing, plant operation, and plant maintenance, E.ON takes over energy supply as a complete, tailor-made package. Orcan Energy’s innovative efficiency PACKs can be deployed anywhere where surplus heat is generated, such as in industry, geothermal sources, in conjunction with power generating plants such as CHPs, or in shipping. About the size of a shower cubicle, they are usually connected very easily and quickly and convert waste heat of all kinds into carbon-free and valuable electricity.

With the cooperation, E.ON and Orcan Energy want to make it easier for industrial operators to work in a manner that conserves resources and at the same time economically in the interest of the environment. By 2030, the effective use of waste heat could save up to 130 million tons of climate-threatening carbon emissions.

“The collaboration is a further step towards a new, sustainable and decentralized energy world: Thanks to Orcan Energy’s waste heat solutions, we can help our industrial and business customers significantly reduce their energy costs and decarbonize their processes,” explains Dr. Ing. Alexander Fenzl, Country Head B2B Solutions Germany at E.ON.

Dr. Andreas Sichert, CEO of Orcan Energy comments: “With this model, we offer our customers the opportunity to operate in two ways that are absolutely resource-saving. For one thing, they do not have to make big investments and can concentrate completely on their core competences and, secondly, they can prepare their processes for a sustainable, clean future.”

“Orcan Energy’s technology is well suited for use in the geothermal energy sector. Particularly its highly attractive cost of electricity generation as well as the modular approach provide an enormously competitive offering to the geothermal energy sector.”so Wolfgang Brand, CFO at Orcan Energy.

E.ON Business Solutions GmbH specializes in integrated energy solutions for customers in the commercial, industrial and public sectors. The company offers tailor-made solutions in the areas of energy efficiency, decentralized energy generation, flexibility, virtual power plants and battery storage. As an energy partner, the company achieves cost savings for its customers and sustainably reduces their energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Orcan Energy AG is a leading European CleanTech company that develops, manufactures and sells efficient energy solutions for the conversion of waste heat into electricity based on Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology. Orcan Energy was founded in 2008 by Dr. Andreas Sichert, Dr. Andreas Schuster und Richard Aumann, with the aim of providing companies from a variety of industry sectors a simple, cost-saving and efficient energy solution that unlocks the enormous potential of unused industrial waste heat sources. So far, Orcan Energy AG has sold more than 200 modules globally, making it the largest provider in the low-temperature sector universally. Orcan Energy customers benefit from clean electricity at the lowest cost of energy worldwide. Given the enormous global waste heat potential, the company sees itself as an indispensable player in the energy world of tomorrow.

Orcan Energy has established a joint venture with VPower Group International Holdings LTD, China’s leading Integrated Power Generation Company, and the financially strong CITIC Pacific Ltd to develop new markets in Asia. Orcan Energy AG employs 60 people and is headquartered in Munich.
