Pertamina expects to add 110 MW capacity by next year

Units 3 and 4 will generate a total of 220 MW at the geothermal power plant of Ulubelu in Lampung, going online in August 2016 and June 2017, respectively.

More good news today about geothermal energy in Indonesia, coinciding with the opening of the 3rd Indonesian International Geothermal Convention & Expo. Local news detail that “Pertamina, through subsidiary Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), aims to see the completion of its 2×55 megawatt (MW) Ulubelu geothermal power plant units 3 and 4 in Lampung in August 2016 and June 2017, respectively.”

“We are optimistic that Ulubelu 3 and 4 will be on stream in line with the completion target. When the power plant project is fully complete, Ulubelu will contribute around 23 percent of total electricity supply for the Lampung area,” Pertamina upstream director Syamsu Alam said to the local newspaper.

Units 3 and 4 will generate 220 MW of power, with an installed electricity capacity in Lampung of over 832 MW, of which “52 percent was generated by coal, 19 percent by diesel fuel, 14 percent by hydro power and 13 percent by geothermal.”
