PGPG has been awarded the development contract for the Southern Leyte geothermal project in the Philippines following a government-led competitive process.

The Philippine Geothermal Production Co. Inc (PGPC) has been awarded the contract to develop the Southern Leyte geothermal power plant in the Philippines, following the fifth round of open and competitive selection process (OCSP-5) for renewable energy projects by the Department of Energy. According to the tender documents, the site has a development potential of 25 MW.

The contract was awarded to PGPC after submitting the highest-ranked application for the project. Another geothermal project included in the tender round, Mt. Natib with a potential of 48 MW, did not receive any bids.

PGPC has been actively seeking out the development of greenfield geothermal sites in the Philippines. In 2025, the company announced the start of exploration drilling at the Mt. Malinao geothermal concession in Albay. PGPC is also evaluating the geothermal prospects in Kalinga, Daklan, Cagua-Baua, and Mt. Labo. The Southern Leyte geothermal project expands the exploration footprint of PGPC beyond Luzon.

The company had previously expressed plans to double the company’s installed geothermal power generation capacity from 300 MW to 600 MW over the next five years.
