Philippine DOE eyes 7 more geothermal service contracts

Philippine DOE eyes 7 more geothermal service contracts, among them Negros Oriental and Leyte, Abra, Batangas, Quezon, Lanao del Norte and South Cabato.

“The Philippine Department of Energy is evaluating about 50 more applications for renewable energy service contracts.”, among them 7 geothermal service contracts, so recent news from the Philippines.

According to the news, “Energy Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan said the processing of these proposals was taking some time because these were the “more difficult projects.”

Data from the DOE showed there were 43 pending wind energy contract applications from 16 companies, including Lopez-led Energy Development Corp., GN Power Ltd. Co., Northwind Power Development Corp., PhilCarbon Inc., Philippine Hybrid Energy Systems Inc., Ryanyx CGS Corp., Sunwest Water and Electric Co. Inc. and Triconti Clean Energy.

Other companies awaiting approval of their wind service contracts include Alternergy Philippine Holdings Corp., Amihan Energy Corp., ASK Mining and Exploration Corp., Bronzeoak Philippines, Caraballo Mountains UPC Asia Corp., Cenezoil Energy Corp., Coastal Power Development Corp. and Energy Logics Philippines Inc.

About 20 of the 43 proposed wind power projects are expected to generate a combined 1,000 megawatts in additional capacity to the country’s three main grids.

The DoE is also studying the pending applications of Lopez subsidiary GreenCore Geothermal Inc. for geothermal service contracts for the Palinpinon and Tongonan facilities in Negros Oriental and Leyte, respectively.

It is likewise reviewing the applications of Pan Pacific Power Corp. for a prospective geothermal site in Abra; Primary Energy Corp. (Puerto Princesa, Palawan) and SKI Construction Group Inc. (Batangas and Quezon).

Also under legal evaluation are the applications of Eoil and Gas Co. Inc. for two potential areas in Lanao del Norte and South Cotabato.

The DoE also disclosed that it was negotiating with EDC, the country’s largest producer of geothermal producer, for the approval of four prospective geothermal areas in Misamis Occidental, Negros Occidental, North Cotabato and Zamboanga del Sur.

Government documents also showed that Chevron Geothermal Philippines Holdings, Inc. (CGPHI) had two applications for contracts with Financial or Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA) provisions for the 289-megawatt geothermal facility in Tiwi, Albay and the 458.53-MW power plant in Mak-Ban spanning Laguna and Quezon.

Pan Pacific Power Corp. (PPPC) has a similar application for its proposed 40-MW geothermal power project in Cagua-Baua in Cagayan. This was one of the geothermal areas that were offered for bidding by the DoE late last year.”
