Possible tender for geothermal concessions in Nicaragua at Telica

Nicaragua eyeing a possible tender for exploration rights at Telica, a volcanic area in the west of the country, and possible 3 additional geothermal hot spots.

With planned transmission lines for Central America, power projects in the region could provide electricity for South America. Therefore countries in the region look at possible energy resources to capitalize on the demand in the South.

So it is no surprise that New Energy Finance (NEF) reports, that Nicaragua is considering a tender for exploration rights to Telica/ El-Najo, a volcanous site in the west of the country this year, and additional 3 sites. According to NEF, the “four sites Mombacho, Apoyo Caldera, Onetepe and Telica-El Najo project could host up to 400MW of geothermal capacity.”
