Production drilling phase starts at Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project, Kenya

Directional drilling of KW-03A signals the start of the production drilling phase in the Baringo-Silali geothermal project of GDC

Kenya state-owned Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has announced the start of drilling of Paka Well 3 A (PW-03A). This will be the first directional well and the first well in the production drilling phase of the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project. GDC expects to develop 100 MW for the first phase of the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project from the three prospects Paka, Korosi, and Silali.

Well PW-03A is being developed from the same PW-03, the last exploration well drilled by GDC in the Paka prospect as we reported. The well was originally drilled to a depth of 2935 meters. The successful discharge of PW-03 concluded the exploratory drilling phase of Baringo-Silali. It was the final confirmation that the area was scientifically viable for production drilling.

Prior to drilling of PW-03A, the drilling rig was used for Korosi Well 3 (KW-03). So far, GDC has drilled 3 wells in Korosi and 5 wells in Paka.
