PT Geo Dipa Energi continues geothermal exploration and development

Besides continued development of the expansion of existing geothermal plants Dieng and Patuha, state-owned PT Geo Dipa Energi continues exploration activities in four assigned prospect areas and additional areas.

State-owned geothermal development and operating enterprise (BUMN) PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), shared details on its current activities.

In an  interview with CNBC  Indonesia, Riki Firmandha Ibrahim, President Director of PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), said that his company is now focusing on developing the geothermal working area (WKP) that has been managed by the company, namely WKP Dieng, Wonosobo Regency, Central Java, and WKP Patuha, West Java.

The company is also completing the small-scale Dieng Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) project with a capacity of 10 mega watts (MW), PLTP Dieng Units 2 and 3 with a capacity of 2 x 55 MW, PLTP Patuha Units 2 and 3 with a capacity of 2 x 55 MW, and PLTP Candradimuka, Banjarnegara City, Central Java 40 MW.

He said that these projects have obtained certainty in the purchase of electricity and funding commitments. For the small-scale 10 MW Dieng PLTP project, the company has budgeted US $ 23 million or around Rp 322 billion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp 14,000 per US $) this year.

“It should be stated that Geo Dipa (Persero) in the age of 20 years running only focuses on the government assignment as stated, and Geo Dipa (Persero) as a BUMN does not work outside of assignments,” he told CNBC Indonesia, Thursday (25/02) / 2021).

In addition to developing PLTP projects in operational geothermal working areas, the company also continues exploration activities in four prospect areas, including Candradimuka, Central Java, Cimanggu Patuha, Bandung Regency, West Java, Umbul Telomoyo Temple, Central Java, and Arjuno Wilerang. , East Java.

In addition, he continued, Geo Dipa was also involved in several exploration activities in several areas as the Ministry of Finance’s Special Mission Vehicle (SMV) in collaboration with companies under the Ministry of Finance such as PT SMI and PT PII and multilateral bank funding cooperation.

The exploration activities for this assignment are in the Waesano area, in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, Jailolo in West Halmahera, North Maluku, Nage in East Manggarai Regency, NTT and Bituang in Tanah Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi.

“This is a step to accelerate and reduce the risk of geothermal exploration so that afterwards it can be expected to provide affordable and fair prices for electrical energy. The results of this drilling exploration will be tendered by the government to the Geothermal IPP, including PGE,” he said.

PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero) has operated PLTP with a total installed capacity of 120 MW, originating from PLTP Patuha Unit 1 60 MW and PLTP Dieng Unit 1 60 MW.
